Gerry Butler started as a store manager with Dunnes Stores in 1978 and joined Primark in 1984, where he spent 38 years rising from store manager to Area Manager for Ireland, Area Manager for Northern Europe, Group Operations Manager, Director of Sales for the Republic of Ireland and Director General of Primark Benelux.
Along the way he opened Primark's first stores in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, established Group Operations to bring consistency across international markets, led the Benelux business through significant employee-relations challenges, and supported Primark's EPOS transformation across more than 400 stores in 16 countries.
Since Primark he has led retail at Shaws Department Stores (17 stores) and, as Interim Head of Retail, SVP Ireland's 220 charity shops. Through Gerry Butler Retail Consultancy, based in County Clare, he now helps business owners, managers and individuals improve performance, strengthen leadership and turn business challenges into practical actions.
